Declutter Your Home in 11 Easy Steps
by Maria Gracia Feeling overwhelmed at the thought of organizing your home? Start on a smaller scale instead and it will be a whole lot easier. For example, instead of starting with the entire house, commit to starting with one room. Follow these 11 steps, and you're well on your way to an organized home: PICK A ROOM--ANY ROOM. Decide on what room to start on. Write it at the top of an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of paper. This will be your Action Sheet. Example: BEDROOM A CHOOSE AN ENTICING REWARD. Designate an appropriate reward to give yourself on the Dumping portion of the job. The reward concept serves as your motivation, so be sure to choose something that you¿d really enjoy! Write this reward on your Action Sheet. Example: Treat yourself to a massage or go out for a nice dinner -- whatever it is that you love to do. Write it on your Action Sheet. SET A DEADLINE. Set a specific Dumping Completion Deadline for this one room. Write it on your Action Sheet. Example: DUMPING DEADLINE: APRIL 30 SCHEDULE TIME TO DUMP. Schedule 3 specific dumping dates (one hour for each). Hopefully this will be enough to complete the dumping portion of the job. Write it on your Action Sheet. Then, post the Action Sheet in a prominent place where you are certain to see it every day, like your bathroom mirror. It will serve as a reminder of your goal, deadline and pending reward. Example: DUMPING DATES: APRIL 18 from 8-9A, APRIL 21 from 8-9A, APRIL 24 from 8-9A KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENT. When the 1st dumping day arrives, keep that appointment, just as you would any other important appointment. Bring a bunch of large garbage bags. Play your favorite music in the background. TIME IT. Set a timer for 1 Hour -- one that sounds off when the hour is up. SORT THROUGH IT. Pick up one item at a time, and start dumping. (If you come across items you want to give to charity, designate a special bag for those items) Whatever you are going to keep, just put to one side of the room. DO IT UNTIL THE TIME IS UP. Continue doing this until the timer goes off. If you prefer to continue, keep going. Otherwise, stop and follow the same procedures for your next two scheduled dates. Don¿t let the garbage bags sit there. Make sure they are thrown out now (or donated), or on Garbage Day at the latest. CELEBRATE. Once you¿ve managed to dump everything you don¿t want or need in that one room, it¿s time to celebrate. Take advantage of that reward you designated. KEEPING IT ORGANIZED. Now that everything in that room that you wanted dumped is gone, you¿re ready to begin putting everything you are keeping back in an organized manner. Be very careful not to put anything else in this room that you don¿t want. REPEAT. Repeat this process for each of the other rooms in your house. by Maria Gracia - Get Organized Now!¿ Want to get organized? Real Estate MYTH!!

Probably the biggest myth regarding real estate in Wisconsin is:

"HOMES DON'T SELL IN THE WINTER!!"

Yes...Summer is the busiest time of the year in almost any location, due to the fact that "school is out" and the weather is good for rummage sales, sprucing up the exterior of your house and yard, not to mention the photos of the lush green lawn looks great....BUT

Other times of the year can be a great time to sell and or buy a home for several reasons!

FALL: Get into your new home before the holidays and old man winter REALLY hits us.
Sellers that may have been trying to sell their homes during the summer months may be a little more negotiable going into a "slower season" particularily if the home is vacant and the heating season is just around the corner.

WINTER: is good for both buyer and sellers alike.
The "SERIOUS" Buyers are out looking, not the "tire kickers" or the "Let's go out for a Sunday Drive and see what we Find" kind of people.
Don't get us wrong....many homes ARE Purchased by the individuals that "thought" they were "just looking" until they actually "found" the right home!

Seller: You may have fewer showings, but the ones you have, percentage wise, are more likely to actually "make an offer", so unless you LIKE keeping your home in "SHOW" condition, this can be a very attractive point for you.

BUYERS: Moving in the winter has it challenges, there are less homes to choose from, but again, serious sellers are willing to sell regardless of the weather, holidays or in the middle of the school year!

SPRING: Early Spring that is!!! is actually one of the busiest times of year, and BEST times of year to sell and buy your home! The long winter's in Wisconsin starts to really "get" to many of us, spring fever, Cabin Fever, A time for a Change, are just a few terms used to describe this time of year.
In fact, we have found that there is a real spurt of calls coming into our office when we have the JANUARY AND FEBRUARY THAWS!
The MOST active time of the year with hits to our web sites is actually Mid February to Mid March!! Yes, that's right, even busier than SUMMER!

So if you've been "thinking" of moving....get started NOW...

Don't wait for the Busiest time of Year where you will have as a Buyer: More competition for the house you love and for a Seller: More Lookers that Serious Buyers!

Choosing Doors

One of the most important features of a new home or remodel
is the door. The door is often the first thing we notice,
so be sure to look for good quality and a stylish look.

There are a variety of different doors you can purchase;
some are built simply for functionality, and some to add a
unique look to your home. You should know the different
types of doors and what they are best used for before you
head out to your local building stores.

Entry doors are used on the exterior of your home.
Typically, you will have a few entry doors in a home, but
the front door is usually the one people will notice. When
building a home most people look for beautifully designed
entry doors to compliment the exterior of the house. The
entry door is where you welcome people into your home so it
is a major focal point. You can find some basic entry doors,
but extravagant and detailed ones are more common.

In a quest to make the entry door look unique, many people
use glass inlays for a distinct look.  While most entry
doors are made of fiberglass, steel, or wood; fiberglass and
steel insulate quite well when compared to wood. It is the
depth of the pocket that decides on the type of entry door.
They vary in costs from a few hundred dollars to a few
thousand for an ornate unique finish.

A second type of door you will probably need is a patio
door. Again you will have a wide variety to choose from.
Patio doors were sliding for years, but are not as
fashionable now as they once were. The advantages to them
are the full views they allow, and the preservation of
space taken up when doors swing open and shut.

French doors are very popular right now and they look simply
stunning in a room when they open out onto a beautiful
patio. They typically have a grid-like design that adds a
nice addition to a room and an almost Oriental feel. You can
find a variety of French doors with different colors and
styling to suit your home.

You may be thinking about adding a storm door to your home.
During the summer they allow you to let in some nice fresh
air and of course more light. If your home needs
insulating, they aren't the best option, but they will
definitely brighten up a dark front room. Storm doors are
typically made from metal, screen, or glass.

It takes a great deal of effort to find a door that suits
your requirement and also reflects your style and taste.
They are the point at which guests are welcomed into the
house and are something that you notice every day. A new
door can make all the difference to the look and feel of
your house.  This comes at a cost and therefore, you need to
shop around before deciding on one.

Ten Things You Should Know About Mold

1. Potential health effects and symptoms associated with mold exposures include allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory complaints.

2. There is no practical way to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment; the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture.

 3. If mold is a problem in your home or school, you must clean up the mold and eliminate sources of moisture.

4. Fix the source of the water problem or leak to prevent mold growth.

5. Reduce indoor humidity (to 30-60%) to decrease mold growth by: a. venting bathrooms, dryers, and other moisture-generating sources to the outside; b. using air conditioners and de-humidifiers; c. increasing ventilation; d. and using exhaust fans whenever cooking, dishwashing, and cleaning.

6. Clean and dry any damp or wet building materials and furnishings within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.

7. Clean mold off hard surfaces with water and detergent, and dry completely. Absorbent materials such as ceiling tiles, that are moldy, may need to be replaced.

8. Prevent condensation: Reduce the potential for condensation on cold surfaces (i.e., windows, piping, exterior walls, roof, or floors) by adding insulation.

9. In areas where there is a perpetual moisture problem, do not install carpeting (i.e., by drinking fountains, by classroom sinks, or on concrete floors with leaks or frequent condensation).

10. Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any substance, providing moisture is present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, and foods.
